Basketball Recap: Mesquite Falls Short Against Ranked Xavier College Prep

Mesquite faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats fell 43-37 to the Gators. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Despite the loss, Mesquite still got an impressive performance from Skylie Gonzales, who went 7-for-12 on her way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Lizzie Norton, who posted eight points.

Mesquite's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Xavier College Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Mesquite and Xavier College Prep will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Wildcats see the court they'll take on Saguaro at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026. As for Xavier College Prep, their break will end when they face Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
