Softball Recap: Evergreen's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Evergreen came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Renton Red Hawks. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won six contests by 14 runs or more so far this season.

Vanessa Smiley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season.

In other batting news, Ita Fonoti was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. Fonoti is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Lily Isaacson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Evergreen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .862. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Evergreen's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.4 runs over those games. As for Renton, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Evergreen didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 32-1 win against Foster on the 14th. As for Renton, they have also already played their next matchup, a 22-5 loss against Interlake on the 12th.
