Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Comes Up Short

Albuquerque Academy was the 24-7 winner over Hope Christian when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chargers took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies on Friday.

Melissa Purcella was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Purcella wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brooklynn Dominguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Albuquerque Academy now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Hope Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Albuquerque Academy will face off against rival Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hope Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
