Softball Game Preview: LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls vs. Evangelical Christian Sentinels

The LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls will square off against the Evangelical Christian Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

LaBelle is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Sebring just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Streaks. Cowboys/Cowgirls fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Blue Streaks since on Monday.

Abby Hicks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, LaBelle saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alana White, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Even though they lost, LaBelle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Evangelical Christian has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.43 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against North Fort Myers, falling 18-8. That makes it the first time this season the Sentinels have let down their home crowd.

Karsyn Mootz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Yzaguirre, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Evangelical Christian's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for LaBelle, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
