Softball Recap: Montgomery Comes Up Short

Montgomery dropped down to 13-13 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-2 to the Bernards Mountaineers. The Cougars were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Mountaineers' pitcher proved too tough.

Ryane Riddell was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Bernards, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.

On Bernards' side, Kriztina Lekai was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Lekai has posted since back in April. Brooke Helpinstill was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Montgomery will challenge Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Bernards, they will take on Gill St. Bernard's at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
