Football Recap: York/Pavilion Drops Season-High Score on Avon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask York/Pavilion). They were the clear victors by a 42-21 margin over the Avon Braves on Friday. This was payback for York/Pavilion, who suffered a 33-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Parker Bonefede produced another solid effort rushing for 101 yards and four TDs on only 12 carries. Those 101 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Yeriel Diaz-Pena was another key player, rushing for 70 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: York/Pavilion was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

York/Pavilion didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Bonefede picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Avon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kalman Dolgos, who gained 85 total yards and two touchdowns, and James Chase, who rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

York/Pavilion pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points over those games. As for Avon, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.

Looking ahead, York/Pavilion will challenge Geneseo/Mount Morris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. York/Pavilion is facing Geneseo/Mount Morris at the right time seeing as Geneseo/Mount Morris is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Avon, they will face off against Oakfield-Alabama/Elba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
