Baseball Recap: Jurupa Valley Triumphs

After only two runs in their last matchup, Jurupa Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Arroyo Valley on Saturday. The Jurupa Valley Jaguars walked away with a 10-6 win over the Arroyo Valley Hawks. This was payback for the Jaguars, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Fabian Portillo was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Portillo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Francisco Urena and Nathan Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Urena scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Martinez scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Urena is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Julian Lopez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

The victory got Jurupa Valley back to even at 1-1. As for Arroyo Valley, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

We've got a battle between Jaguars coming up. As for Arroyo Valley, they will take on Palm Springs at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
