Softball Recap: Summerfield Takes a Loss

Summerfield had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-3 to make it six. They fell just short of the Madison Trojans by a score of 7-6. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 9-1 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Madison, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

For Madison's part, Olivia Schmitz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Madison let Kendall Gilbertson and Mya Solis run wild. Gilbertson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Solis went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kalexiana Wrest, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Summerfield will head out to face off against Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Madison, they will welcome Hanover-Horton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
