Basketball Game Preview: Parker Thundering Herd vs. Midfield Patriots

Parker is 1-8 against Midfield since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Parker Thundering Herd will be taking part in a tournament against the Midfield Patriots at 4:00 p.m.

Parker is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They took a blow against Ramsay, falling 59-32. While losing is never fun, the Thundering Herd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Rams are ranked 34th).

Meanwhile, Midfield came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 51-33.

Midfield's win came from a few key players Parker will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lauren Stokes, who went 9 of 19 on her way to 22 points and three steals. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kamiya Webb, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 boards.

Parker's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Midfield, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Everything came up roses for Parker against Midfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, as the team secured a 63-21 victory. Does Parker have another victory up their sleeve, or will Midfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
