Basketball Recap: Norfolk Catholic Knights vs. Gross Catholic Cougars
After flying high against Lincoln Lutheran last Thursday, Norfolk Catholic came back down to earth. The Norfolk Catholic Knights took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gross Catholic Cougars. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Norfolk Catholic lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eva Hartzell, who earned 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Wolf, who posted ten points plus five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Norfolk Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Norfolk Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Gross Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norfolk Catholic will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gross Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Brownell Talbot at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
