Basketball Recap: Kaliyah Miller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gig Harbor over Bellarmine Prep

After flying high against Silas last Thursday, Gig Harbor came back down to earth. The Gig Harbor Tides took a 72-54 bruising from the Bellarmine Prep Lions on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Tides in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost nine in a row.

Gig Harbor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaliyah Miller, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Willow Bonnici, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five boards.

Leading Bellarmine Prep to victory were Melina Petramalo and Kyla Frazier. Petramalo dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds, while Frazier posted 21 points along with seven steals and six assists. Frazier has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Jaela Jones was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 12 points.

Gig Harbor's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Bellarmine Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow still isn't as good as their 15-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gig Harbor will venture away from home to square off against Central Kitsap at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bellarmine Prep, they will head out on the road to challenge Mount Tahoma at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bellarmine Prep has three straight victories, Mount Tahoma has 17 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
