Previewing the 2023 high school football season: Elijah Brown, Dylan Raiola headline top 10 quarterbacks

List dominated by signal-callers headed to Power 5 schools while uncommitted Bryce Underwood, Julian Lewis only non-seniors selected.

Earlier this summer, we kicked off our preview of the 2023 high school football season with the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25, expanded top 100 and the best team in every state. Next, we shift the focus to the players with a look at the elite at each position beginning today with the quarterbacks.

Eight of the 10 will be seniors this season while the other two spots feature a junior and a sophomore, both of whom are uncommitted.

Georgia has a third of the list covered after the transfer of top-rated 2024 QB Dylan Raiola to Buford. The former Arizona signal-caller joins Julian Lewis of Carrollton and Air Noland of Langston Hughes (Fairburn) from the Peach State.

California and Michigan each had two quarterbacks make the list as Elijah Brown of Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and Julian Sayin of Carlsbad rep the Golden State while Bryce Underwood of Belleville and CJ Carr of Saline were selected from the Great Lake State.

Has been starting since his freshman year playing against the best competition and has gone 29-1 during his career. The four-star quarterback enters his senior campaign with 6,339 yards passing and 76 touchdowns. He has completed 70.5 percent of his passes to go with seven rushing scores.

Status: Committed to Georgia | Class: Senior (2024)
The top-rated recruit in the Class of 2024 threw for 2,435 yards and 22 touchdowns last year at Chandler (Ariz.). As a sophomore he threw for 3,341 yards and 32 scores at Burleson (Texas).

Status: Uncommitted | Class: Junior (2025)
Has been named the MaxPreps Freshman and Sophomore Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. The top-rated quarterback in his class has thrown for 5,650 yards and 76 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to consecutive Division 1 state titles.

The 2022 MaxPreps Freshman of the Year threw for 4,118 yards and 48 touchdowns while leading the Trojans to the AAAAAAA state championship game. He has landed over 30 FBS offers that includes Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and USC.

The 2022 MaxPreps Junior of the Year threw for 3,575 yards and 54 touchdowns while leading the Gaels to a 14-1 record. He added 353 yards on the ground and three scores while completing 75.8 percent of his passes. The Las Vegas power begins the season No. 2 in the MaxPreps Top 25.

Was named the Elite 11 MVP earlier this summer and has thrown for 5,477 yards and 61 touchdowns over the last two years. Has led the Lancers to a 21-3 record and they were one of 14 teams from California featured in our expanded top 100.

Status: Committed to Ohio State | Class: Senior (2024)
Led the Panthers to the AAAAAA state title last season throwing for 4,095 yards and 55 touchdowns. It was the school's first state championship and his 55 touchdown passes tied for the second-most in a single season in Georgia history. He enters his senior season with 8,024 yards passing and 104 touchdowns.

The 2022 MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year threw for 3,425 yards and 43 touchdowns while leading the Chargers to their second straight NCISAA Division 1 title. Davis and the Chargers begin the season as the top-ranked team in North Carolina.

Over his last 20 games he has accounted for 4,877 yards of total offense (3,660 passing, 1,217 rushing) and 54 total touchdowns. The four-star quarterback is the 10th-rated player from Texas in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports.

Has thrown for nearly 5,400 yards and 54 touchdowns over the last two years. The grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr is the top-rated prospect from Michigan in his class, according to 247Sports.
