Football Preview: Abbeville Wildcats vs. Kaplan Pirates
For the first time this season, Abbeville will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Kaplan Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Abbeville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
Abbeville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Franklinton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats fell just short of the Demons by a score of 33-30 on Thursday. Dazavien Maze, who threw for 234 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 31 yards, was perhaps the best of all. Another back making a difference was Justin Montgomery, who rushed for 131 yards and one score while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.

Abbeville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Andrew Payton III and Jacolby Campbell. Payton III is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last six games he's played. Jazavian Briggs was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Kaplan was able to grind out a solid win over Southern Lab on Thursday, taking the game 27-18. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Kaplan's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Abbeville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
