Preview: Progreso Red Ants vs. Lyford Bulldogs
Progreso is 0-4 against Lyford since August of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Progreso Red Ants will head out on the road to face off against the Lyford Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Progreso is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Progreso fell victim to San Diego's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 55-0 loss at the hands of the Vaqueros. Progreso was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Lyford was able to grind out a solid win over Santa Gertrudis Academy on Friday, taking the game 34-24.
Among those leading the charge was Isaias Gonzalez, who picked up 159 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Aiden Olivas was another key player, having thrown for 251 yards and three touchdowns.
San Diego's win bumped their season record to 6-1 while Progreso's loss dropped theirs to 0-8.
Progreso took a serious blow against Lyford in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 58-0. Thankfully for Progreso, Osmar Martinez (who threw for 145 yards and a touchdown on only five passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
