Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Newnan Cougars
Alexander is 3-0 against Newnan since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Alexander Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Newnan Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alexander has five straight wins, Newnan has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though New Manchester scored an imposing 65 points on Tuesday, Alexander still came out on top. Alexander took their match against New Manchester 76-65. Given Alexander's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while New Manchester is ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Braedan Lue, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chris Hutchinson, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Newnan was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 50-49 to East Paulding.
Alexander pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. As for Newnan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Everything came up roses for Alexander against Newnan when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 89-45 victory. With Alexander ahead 55-21 at the half, the match was all but over already.
