Softball Recap: Estero Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bonita Springs on Friday, Estero came back down to earth. The Wildcats took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariner Tritons on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Tritons: they've now lost five in a row.

Makenzie Baxter was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Madelyn Millette was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Estero's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Mariner, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Estero will square off against Port Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mariner, they will face off against Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tritons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
