Basketball Recap: Nicolette Kelly Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mountain Pointe

Desert Mountain's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They snuck past the Mountain Pointe Pride with a 53-48 win. This was a revenge game for the Wolves: when they faced off against the Pride back in January, they had to take a 55-54 defeat.

Desert Mountain got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nicolette Kelly out in front who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Bella Aguirre was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Desert Mountain's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 7-15. As for Mountain Pointe, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 16 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Mountain will host Arizona College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mountain Pointe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Verrado at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
