Football Game Preview: Mercer/Butternut vs. Mellen

Mellen have been homebodies their last two matches, but they are heading out on Saturday. They take on Mercer/Butternut at 1:00 PM. Mellen have seen their point totals decreasing over the past three games, a vulnerability Mercer/Butternut are surely hoping to exploit.

After some red-hot point totals in their last 4 games, Mellen fizzled out last Saturday. They were given a punishing 8-55 defeat at the hands of Northwood/Solon Springs. The low total for Mellen limited their streak of high-flying scores to four in a row.

Meanwhile, things haven't been easy for Mercer/Butternut, and their matchup last Friday only extended their streak of losses to five. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 14-38 punch to the gut against Shell Lake. The state rankings had actually given Mercer/Butternut a slight edge heading into the game, making this hurt that much more.

Everything came up roses for Mellen against Mercer/Butternut the last time the two teams met as the team secured a 44-0 win.
