Baseball Recap: Holmes Wins Going Away Against Northeastern

While Holmes didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Northeastern Eagles with a sharp 13-3 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Aces, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Myles Cobb was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Holmes let Darius Oliver and Landon Morgan run wild. Oliver scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Morgan scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Fisher Bobbitt, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Holmes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeastern only posted an OBP of .414.

Holmes is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Northeastern's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Holmes beat Northeastern by a score of 11-0 on Friday.
