Marion Local has gone 6-1 against Ansonia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Flyers will face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Marion Local is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Marion Local's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over New Bremen. The victory was nothing new for the Flyers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Not much got past Parker Hess, who gave up just a hit to keep New Bremen off the board. Hess has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ethan Heitkamp, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Ansonia faced off against Houston on Saturday. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Lander Shives and Kam Ingle made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Shives pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Ingle didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ansonia is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. At the plate, Shives went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Ingle went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That home run was Shives' first of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Asher Shives, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Marion Local's record is now 7-2. As for Ansonia, their record now sits at 5-7.
Ansonia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marion Local has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. It's a different story for Ansonia, though, as they've only averaged .348. Will they be able to contain Marion Local's hitters?
Everything went Marion Local's way against Ansonia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Marion Local made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flyers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
