Baseball Recap: Del Mar Takes a Loss

Del Mar had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it ten. They came up short against the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs, falling 14-1. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by exactly 13 runs.

As for Monte Vista Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Considering they have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Monte Vista Christian's part, the team relied heavily on Mikie Melenudo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave Melenudo a new career-high. Evan Vessey was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Del Mar will challenge Piedmont Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Monte Vista Christian, they will face off against Evergreen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
