Softball Recap: Wheaton North Drops Season-High Score on Naperville North

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wheaton North). They put the hurt on the Naperville North Huskies with a sharp 17-9 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Makayla Grantz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Hammer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marilyn Alexander, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Wheaton North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Wheaton North pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Naperville North, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheaton North will square off against Batavia at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Naperville North, they will challenge Neuqua Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
