Basketball Recap: Madison County Takes a Loss

Madison County won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a 61-20 loss at the hands of the Luray Bulldogs. The Mountaineers lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 45-40 score last time.

Madison County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gracie Woodward, who posted three points and ten rebounds. Woodward has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ayana Green, who earned four points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Madison County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Luray, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison County will face off against Strasburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Luray, they will take on Stonewall Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Stonewall Jackson has lost four straight at home , while Luray has lost five on the road (dating back to last season).
