The Mishawaka Marian Knights will challenge the Hammond Morton Governors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
On Thursday, Mishawaka Marian didn't have quite enough to beat New Prairie and fell 2-1. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Mishawaka Marian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annie Verslype, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hammond Morton waltzed into their match on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 24-10 margin over the Pirates. The result was nothing new for the Governors, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Ei'Lani Herrera made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Analiya Feliciano was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with six stolen bases, six runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Asia Jackson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.
Hammond Morton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in six consecutive games.
Hammond Morton pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.6 runs over those games. As for Mishawaka Marian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Mishawaka Marian couldn't quite get it done against Hammond Morton in their previous matchup last Tuesday as they fell 7-4. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
