Basketball Recap: San Clemente Piles Up the Points Against University

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for San Clemente on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the University Trojans out of the water with an 84-47 final score. Given the Tritons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Trojans are ranked 503rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

San Clemente was led to victory by Porter Hansen and Christian Fernandez. Hansen went 12 for 18 on his way to 30 points, while Fernandez went 8 of 16 en route to 20 points and seven assists. Hansen has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Berlien, who posted six points.

Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Shervin Moarrefian, who had 11 points. Faris Harb was another key player, putting up six points.

San Clemente pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for University, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

San Clemente will head out to take on Beckman at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Clemente has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for University, they will host Laguna Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
