Basketball Recap: Marlington Comes Up Short

Marlington played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Rootstown Rovers, falling 61-38. The Dukes were down 52-30 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Rootstown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colbie Curall, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Curall is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elliot Smallfield, who went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points and three blocks.

Marlington dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Rootstown, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Marlington will challenge Carrollton at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rootstown, they will square off against Revere at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rootstown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Revere likes a good challenge.
