Softball Recap: Mercy Snaps 29-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Mercy dropped their record down to 20-2 on Sunday, which also ended the team's 29-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 7-1 to the Grand Blanc Bobcats. The Marlins were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bobcats earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

As for Grand Blanc, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games.

For Grand Blanc's part, Kayla Blumenschein and Savannah Schultz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Blumenschein struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Schultz struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Blumenschein went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Schultz went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Stevenson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Mercy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 15-0 win against Linden on the 18th. As for Grand Blanc, they have also already played their next game, a 4-1 loss against Allen Park on the 18th.
