Softball Recap: Fort Hamilton Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Fort Hamilton strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past the New Utrecht Utes 18-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 back in March.

Kaitlyn Jacob was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Jacob was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Andrea Ghirardi and Alina Ajgirevich did most of the damage at the plate: Ghirardi went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Ajgirevich went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Ghirardi has launched this season. Ariadna Sierra Rosa was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Fort Hamilton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Fort Hamilton's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for New Utrecht, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Fort Hamilton will face off against Midwood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Utrecht, they will head out to take on Lincoln at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Railsplitters have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.6 runs per game on average), something the Utes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
