Softball Recap: Eight Straight Road Wins for Archbishop Mitty

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop Mitty). They came out on top against the Carlmont Scots by a score of 13-8 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Monarchs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Kyleigh Mace tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Archbishop Mitty let Rylie Hicks and Olivia Anderson run wild. Hicks went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Anderson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. That's the most hits Anderson has posted since back in April of 2024. Gianna Catalano also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Archbishop Mitty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Archbishop Mitty pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Carlmont, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Archbishop Mitty will venture away from home to challenge Gilroy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Gilroy 1.4, Archbishop Mitty 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Carlmont, they will challenge Aragon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carlmont has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
