Basketball Recap: Western Starts Season with Victory at Home

Western took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Saturday. They skirted past the Paint Valley Bearcats 63-60. That's more bragging rights for the Indians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Western got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Satterfield out in front who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 boards. Landan Owens was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 16 points.

Western was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Paint Valley is on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will welcome Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paint Valley, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Unioto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Bearcats their first taste of in-conference action this season.
