Williams Valley is still undefeated this season after their match against Tri-Valley on Saturday, but Tri-Valley came as close as anyone has to beating them. Williams Valley skirted past Tri-Valley 7-5. The seven-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Sage Smeltz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Smeltz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrina Fry, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Kamri Koppenhaver also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Williams Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Williams Valley's record is now 5-0. As for Tri-Valley, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williams Valley will face off against Weatherly at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weatherly has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something Williams Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tri-Valley, they will take on Nativity BVM at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
