Basketball Recap: Smithville Takes a Loss

Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 84-13 loss at the hands of the La Grange Leopards. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-5.

Clayton Cooper was a one-man wrecking crew for La Grange as he almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. Cooper has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Cole Collier was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Smithville's loss dropped their record down to 1-23. As for La Grange, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 23-8.

Looking ahead, Smithville will host Giddings at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Grange, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bellville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
