League recap: Sacred Heart Academy tops Carson City-Crystal to extend winning streak

Mid-State - South recap Oct. 9, 2012

Sacred Heart Academy extended the longest winning streak in Mid-State - South this week by beating Carson City-Crystal, 54-30. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Irish.

Montabella moved up to 465 from 492 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 39-8 win over Ashley helped the Mustangs improve their standing.

Sacred Heart Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mitch Myler threw for 250 and three touchdowns and Dustin Neyer had 139 yards receiving. On the ground Nick Hire chipped in 164 yards. Mike Heller helped Sacred Heart Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 67 yards.

Peter Taylor made the biggest impact on defense this week as Montabella beat the Bears. The sophomore pulled down one interception.

Rick Roberts' team's Myler and Neyer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Myler has thrown for 1748 yards this season, while Neyer, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 40 catches for 748 yards. Tim Anderson from Coleman leads the league in rushing with 1043 yards.

A big matchup in Mid-State - South this week will be when the Comets take on the Irish. Coleman is in fourth place, while Sacred Heart Academy is in first place.

There should be lots of points scored when Chad Klopf 's team and the Irish face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Comets comes in having scored 266 this season, while Sacred Heart Academy has scored 340. Coleman scored 14 points last week as it fell to Vestaburg.

David Clay's team took down Ashley 39-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brady Burggren threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 31 yards in the win.
