Softball Game Preview: Devine Warhorses vs. Gonzales Apaches

For the second straight game, Devine will face off against Gonzales. The Warhorses will be playing in front of their home fans against the Apaches at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Devine has three straight wins, Gonzales has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Devine's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Gonzales with a sharp 11-0 victory. Considering the Warhorses have won 15 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Natalie Valle was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Yaya Rodriguez, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Devine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gonzales only posted an OBP of .062.

Devine's win bumped their record up to 23-5. As for Gonzales, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.

Devine's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Warhorses have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gonzales, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Devine continue to outrun the ball?
