Basketball Recap: Norfolk Takes a Loss

If Norfolk was riding high fresh off their 67-41 takedown of North Platte on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers took a blow against the Scottsbluff Bearcats on Saturday, falling 73-43. The Panthers lost against the Bearcats in their previous head to head back in December of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 57-49 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Norfolk lost, don't look at Gavin Jarecki. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points and six rebounds. Jarecki is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Aiden Plasencia was another key player, putting up six points and six boards.

Rylee Meininger had an outrageously good game for Scottsbluff as he shot 73% from the field to rack up 30 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nate Kelley, who posted ten points along with eight assists and seven boards.

Norfolk's record now sits at 1-1. As for Scottsbluff, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Norfolk will challenge Creighton Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scottsbluff, they will take on Century at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
