Basketball Game Preview: Marion Swamp Foxes vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers

The Marion Swamp Foxes will venture away from home to face off against the Andrew Jackson Volunteers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Marion sitting on three straight wins and Andrew Jackson on eight.

Last Monday, Marion was able to grind out a solid victory over Woodland, taking the game 47-38.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Andrew Jackson walked away with it. They blew past the Warhorses 79-5 on Monday. The Volunteers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 20 games by 21 points or more this season.

Marion better focus on containing Tamia Watkins and Ni'Yonna Asbelle as the pair were huge in Andrew Jackson's win. Watkins dropped a double-double with 36 points and 11 rebounds, while Asbelle went 12-for-16 on her way to 26 points in addition to six steals and five assists. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Watkins has scored at least a third of Andrew Jackson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emiley McCall, who posted seven points and five steals.

Andrew Jackson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 24 consecutive matchups.

Andrew Jackson pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 61.2 points. As for Marion, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.
