Softball Recap: Edinburg North Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

Edinburg North hadn't beaten La Joya on the road since April 1, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Edinburg North Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the La Joya Coyotes a 7-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Destany Bermudez, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep La Joya off the board. Bermudez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Natalie Diaz was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Edinburg North is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. La Joya is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edinburg North will challenge Port Isabel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Port Isabel has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.71 runs per game on average), something Edinburg North will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for La Joya, they and McAllen will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
