Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. First Flight Nighthawks

The Hoggard Vikings and the First Flight Nighthawks will round out the year against one another at at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hoggard is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Cary just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Imps by a score of 64-61. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Imps are ranked 357th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Lawson Brown, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 15 points. Will Seward was another key player, going 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hoggard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, First Flight suffered their biggest defeat since December 29, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 94-66 loss at the hands of New Hanover. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (57), the Nighthawks still had to take the loss.

Hoggard's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2. As for First Flight, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
