Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Plant

Plant proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Gaither Cowboys 3-2. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cowboys, too.

Plant got a great performance from Summer Wood as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Wood has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Plant's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Olive Masters, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Masters a new career-high. Addison Lee also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Plant hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Plant pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Gaither, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Coming up, Plant will welcome Sumner at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Gaither, they are taking a road trip to square off against Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
