Baseball Game Preview: Paxton Bobcats vs. Destin Sharks

The Paxton Bobcats will take on the Destin Sharks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Paxton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Paxton challenged Bethlehem on Tuesday. The Bobcats were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Wildcats. The Bobcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Paxton got a massive performance out of Trevor Varnum, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Varnum a new career-high. Phillip Bearden was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Paxton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Destin's offense. They came up short against Jay on Tuesday, falling 16-0. The Sharks just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Destin's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Paxton, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Paxton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Bobcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Destin, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Paxton continue to outrun the ball?
