Football Recap: Mcallen Memorial Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but McAllen Memorial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Rowe Warriors 33-31. The win was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won six games in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braxton Speights and Jayden Soliz. Speights rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns while Soliz rushed for 152 yards and one score while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Soliz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards.

McAllen Memorial didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Rowe to a completion percentage of just 47.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Josh Castellanos and Julian Castaneda, who each logged one passes deflected. McAllen Memorial wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 22.2%.

Rowe's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexander Lopez Negrete, who rushed for 137 yards and one TD, and Jose Jimenez, who gained 91 total yards and two touchdowns.

McAllen Memorial's record now sits at 7-2. As for Rowe, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.

McAllen Memorial didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 26-21 victory against Palmview on the 7th. As for Rowe, they have also already played their next matchup, a 23-7 loss against McAllen on the 7th.
