Volleyball Recap: Sophie Gum's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Notre Dame over Ritchie County + How To Watch

Notre Dame lost against Ritchie County back in October of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Fighting Irish fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 2-1.

Notre Dame started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-9, 25-16.

Notre Dame lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sophie Gum, who had 15 digs, six kills, and one block. She is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Piper Fryer, who had 14 digs and nine assists.

Notre Dame has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Ritchie County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-11.

Notre Dame didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Lewis County on the 7th. Ritchie County has also already played their next matchup (against Doddridge County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
