Softball Recap: McHenry Takes a Loss

Warren Township hit McHenry with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 6-5. The Warriors have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Caitlyn Carlisle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Danica McCarthy and Morgan Frederick did some serious damage despite the final result: McCarthy went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Frederick went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Natalie Bender was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

McHenry's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Warren Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

McHenry will head out on the road to square off against Huntley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Raiders will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Warren Township, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Forest at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Scouts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.45 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
