Basketball Recap: Westlake Academy Blacksmiths vs. Spencerville Adventist Academy Hornets
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Tampa Christian Academy, the Westlake Academy Blacksmiths were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 44-34 win over Spencerville Adventist Academy. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Westlake Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Westlake Academy found their leader in underclassman Maya Sonday, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. Bailey Burdick was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Spencerville Adventist Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mia Daniels, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Asha Caruthers, who scored six points.
Westlake Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Spencerville Adventist Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Westlake Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Titans at 2:00 p.m. on January 26th. North Tampa Christian Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games. As for Spencerville Adventist Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Angels at 6:25 p.m. on January 27th. Burton Adventist Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
