The ABF Academy Homestead Bandits will be taking part in a tournament against the Taravella Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, ABF Academy Homestead was able to grind out a solid win over Gulliver Prep, taking the game 8-3.
ABF Academy Homestead got a great performance from Kyle De Haseth as he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits were De Haseth's first of the season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Justin Martina, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Zion Pardo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
ABF Academy Homestead kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Taravella waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jaguars a 10-0 shutout. Taravella's victory was all the more impressive since the Jaguars were averaging only 3.13 runs allowed on the season.
The result came thanks to Michael Ghann's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, JC Martinez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Tyler Morgan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Taravella's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for ABF Academy Homestead, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-10.
Both ABF Academy Homestead and Taravella just can't seem to miss. ABF Academy Homestead has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Taravella struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits.
