Baseball Recap: Lake Nona Wins Going Away Against Gateway

Lake Nona barely beat Gateway the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Lake Nona put the hurt on Gateway with a sharp 8-2 victory on Thursday. Considering the Lions have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryland Happel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Logan Inman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Solorzano, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lake Nona was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only posted a batting average of .200.

Lake Nona's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Gateway, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Coming up, Lake Nona will face off against Cypress Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gateway, they will challenge Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.4 runs per game on average), something Gateway will no doubt try to take advantage of.
