Volleyball Recap: Jefferson Takes a Loss

If Jefferson was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of North County on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Jays took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Vincent Indians on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Jays of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

While Jefferson ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17.

Despite the loss, Jefferson still got an impressive performance from Louise Duepner, who had 17 digs and two assists. Gianna Barbagallo also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Leading St. Vincent to victory were Paige Leible and Aubrey Emmendorfer. Leible had 15 digs, while Emmendorfer had 11 digs. Those 11 digs gave Emmendorfer a new career-high.

Jefferson has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10-3 record this season. As for St. Vincent, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5-1.

Jefferson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 1-1 draw against Licking on the 20th. As for St. Vincent, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Valle Catholic on the 22nd.
