Football Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Laney

Laney hadn't done well against New Hanover recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buccaneers snuck past the Wildcats with a 33-28 victory. This was payback for the Buccaneers, who suffered a 38-10 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jeremiah Brown was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those 149 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Despite the loss, New Hanover still got an impressive performance from Tanahri Johnson, who rushed for 20 yards and two scores, and also threw for 194 yards and one TD. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Tony Clark-Nelson helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.

Laney's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.13 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.66 in the others. As for New Hanover, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
