Baseball Recap: Washington Academy Extends Home Winning Streak to Ten

Washington Academy waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the George Stevens Academy Eagles a 10-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-1 on May 5th.

Parker Cates made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Colby Moholland was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. James Welch was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Washington Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for George Stevens Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 2.1, the Knights 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, George Stevens Academy will face off against rival Sumner at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
