Softball Recap: Westlake Comes Up Short

Westlake extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-12 in the process. They came up short against the Leonardtown Raiders, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wolverines' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Leonardtown, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by eight runs or more this season.

For Leonardtown's part, Kendall Wathen was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave Wathen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Ashleman, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Westlake is set to take on their familiar foe Thomas Stone on Friday. Meanwhile, Leonardtown will challenge rival Chopticon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 0.9, the Braves 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
